The Dukes of Burgundy gain control over the Low Countries. In 1464 Duke Philip the Good summons representatives of all the provincial assemblies or ëStatesí to meet in what will eventually come to be regarded as the first meeting of the States General (the official name of the present-day bicameral Dutch parliament).
